[ Wrap up session for Global HR Forum 2010 ]

Since HRD has been recognized as one of the important national development factors, GHR 2010 was a
successful international forum introducing the role of Korea to the international community.
- The need for improvement of the education system was emphasized to ensure Human Resources Development to provide a fundamental basis for national development.
- To cope with economic crises, we should share and discuss about the opportunities of international cooperation.
- The Forum is not talking simply about human resources but human beings and socially responsible global citizens.
- The Forum reminds us that we need to do more to improve education system, better foster lifelong learning, allow scarce resources to be wisely used in people, and to strive to create a cleaner, fairer, inclusive and sustainable society.
- During the sessions, the need for global cooperation was emphasized in terms of monetary policy and taxation system, providing implications to the G20 Seoul Summit in November.
- During the sessions, a range of discussions were held, including the direction of developing countries' economic development and the reinforced monetary policy of the European Monetary Union in global economy.
- In order to facilitate vocational education and training for green growth, an emphasis should be placed on the core competences required in green industries, a bridging mechanism between education and labor market.
- To deal with the social issue of aging population, vocational education and job creation for the ageing population were recommended.
- The Forum brings people from various fields with specialized in specific aspects of HRD. Through the Forum, we can get out of our specific perspectives and see from a broader perspective. In particular, we can see how HRD has many benefits in broader perspective.
- The Forum provided a learning experience both about Korea and Korea's ambition as a leader in the world. Korea is taking the global responsibility to put an emphasis on HRD at the center of debate about the future. Over the years, the Forum has made people think about HRD, and what role it can play for the future.
- The Forum reminds us that people are the real wealth of nations. Countries might be poor in natural resources, but resources should be allocated to people, as a way of building the wealth of nations.
Following this year's successful Global HR Forum, a number of recommendations were made during the
wrap-up session.
- The Forum should include more international dimension in terms of speakers and moderators. Also, more solid partnership with such international organizations as World Bank, UNESCO and OECD, should be developed in the organization of the Global HR Forum. Furthermore, participation of civil society groups, NGOs and private sector was recommended.
- Korea is chair of the G20 Summit and a member of OECD DAC; it has responsibilities to share its experiences with other countries. The Forum should be focused, to engage more countries, and should be able to inspire developing countries.
